Laser Vein Removal FAQ’s
What is it and How can it Help Me?
Laser Vein Therapy is a safe and quick way to effectively eliminate a broad range of vessels, from tiny spider veins to deep blue varicose veins. The Cutera CoolGlide laser exhibits the ideal laser wavelength and the most flexible parameters to deliver superior results with minimal discomfort. The long wavelength makes this laser ideal for treating patients of all skin tones.
How does it work?
The laser works by delivering pulses of light energy through the skin that cause the blood within the vein to coagulate, eventually destroying the vessel. The vessel is then reabsorbed by your body, and blood flow is redirected to veins deeper below your skin’s surface, where it should be.
What types of veins can laser therapy treat?
Laser Vein Therapy can remove a wide range of unsightly veins from all parts of the body. Spider veins and large blue leg veins can be treated with excellent results, as well as small, facial veins without bruising or complication. Dr. Lingle can confirm which veins can be treated the most effectively.
How many treatments will you need?
Most patients find that only one or two treatments are necessary to get rid of most veins, although it will depend on the size and color of the vein, and significant improvement of appearance can be seen within two to six weeks. Most patients report few, if any, side effects. The main side effect is localized redness and swelling that typically disappears after 24 hours.
Do the treatments hurt?
Most patients experience a mild stinging sensation as the pulse of light is delivered to the skin. Although no pain medication is necessary, our laser vein therapy doctors usually consult with patients and choose to use a topical anesthetic before the treatment to make sure that the patient is comfortable for the treatment so that the best results can be reached.
What are the possible side effects of laser vein therapy?
Although most patients report no side effects, the most common side effect is localized redness and swelling in the first 24 hours after the treatment. In rare instances, bruising and/or blistering may occur.
When will I see results?
Most patients find that major results can be seen within two to six weeks. Although the full results of laser vein therapy may not be seen for several months. Some patients notice significant improvement immediately. Over time it is possible for new veins to appear, but these can also be removed with the Cutera laser.
