Anti-Aging Dermal Fillers & Injectbales at Look Young Atlanta:
While BOTOX® and dermal fillers such as JUVÉDERM®, Restylane®, and Radiesse®, are often associated, it is important to know that they are not the same. An easy way to visualize the difference is to think of your facial lines and wrinkles as hills and valleys. BOTOX® prevents the hills from being pushed together and made bigger whereas dermal fillers fill in the valleys.
BOTOX ® Cosmetic:
Medically known as botulinum toxin type A, BOTOX® has been used for treating medical problems while BOTOX® Cosmetic is one of the most trusted non-surgical solution for wrinkle reduction. The muscles in the face are relaxed after injections of BOTOX® Cosmetic, causing wrinkles to be less apparent. BOTOX® Cosmetic has been FDA approved since 2002 and proven highly effective in treating multiple types of wrinkles. There is no need for the use of a local anesthesia, unless upon request, because most people don’t describe BOTOX® Cosmetic injections to be painful. The procedure is also very convenient as it takes little to no time, allowing you to get in and carry on with the rest of your day.
JUVÉDERM® is a type of injectable dermal filler that has been approved by the FDA since 2006. Both dermatologists and cosmetologists trust JUVÉDERM® to help decrease the appearance of wrinkles on the face. It is set apart from other types of injectable dermal fillers because it uses a compound already found in human skin tissue, hyaluronic acid. JUVÉDERM® has also been used for other cosmetic procedures such as lip augmentation and lifting of facial skin. JUVÉDERM® has been proven to be effective because it stretches fibroplasts, cells in the skin, to form new collagen. The more collagen in the skin, the less the amount of wrinkles and creases. The side effects are mild; most experience slight bruising, soreness of area of injection, as well as some redness. However, most people need little recovery time and are able to carry on with their day immediately.
Unlike surgical procedures that actively stretches skin to decrease the appearance of wrinkles, dermal fillers depend on injectable substances to essential fill in the wrinkle. Dermal fillers are often preferred by both patients and cosmetologists because the results have given patients a more natural appearance in comparison to surgery. Radiesse®, a type of dermal filler, was approved by the FDA in 2006. It is composed of tiny microscopic mineral particles suspended in a gel solution that is water based. The injection of Radiesse® solution stimulates the growth of collagen which fills in wrinkles and decreases the appearance of aging.
Restylane® is another popular option in the family of dermal fillers. It is one of the first dermal filler solutions made of biodegradable form of hyaluronic acid that is approved by the FDA. Restylane® comes in the form of a clear gel and like all the other dermal fillers, it is injected underneath the surface of the skin. Upon the injection of Restylane®, the doctor will first determine the points of injection and proceed with an injection of a local anesthesia. Most patients experience some form of discomfort due to the needle. Patients are able to carry on with normal day to day activities immediately, but should avoid sun exposure immediately after the treatment. The procedure itself is rather brief and usually takes only 30 minutes to perform.

In general, BOTOX® works better for treatment of lines and wrinkles that are exacerbated by facial expressions while dermal fillers are better for lines and wrinkles that are apparent while your face is at rest. For most people, a combination of BOTOX® and dermal fillers will provide the best results.
